SDA Welcome’s its new Vice Chair for Europe & International
Philip Waldenberger is half German, half Japanese. He was born in Japan but mostly lived in Germany.
He started studying Musicology in 2004 in Munich at the Ludwigs Maximilian University and simultaneously attended the German Pop Academy to take a class in audio engineering. In 2005, he joined the student radio M94.5 as an engineer. A little later he also started working at AFK TV, both of which contributed to his experience in the field of broadcast engineering, and provided him with the opportunity to record local bands and do their live mixing. In 2007, he moved to Austria to study „Tonmeister“ at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
He first encountered the AES at their convention in London in 2010. The same year, he became Treasurer of the AES Student Section Vienna, and the following year Vice Chair (Europe & International).
While primarily recording classical music in Vienna, his true passion for music arose out of popular music. Starting with MIDI programming with a Roland SC-88 Pro when he was only 12 years old, soon the electric guitar became his favorite instrument and the Smashing Pumpkins one of his most influential bands. Philip has played in several bands and has always been making music. At present, he is part of a more electronic sounding project, called Cardiochaos, mainly equipped with synthesizers and effect pedals.
